Mel Gibson's flick apparently raked in about 14 million this past weekend, which seems to be big news for the media. Let's dissect the reasons why it is doing so well, shall we.
1. The movie is a slaughter- fest according to reviewers. Americans love nothing more then going to a movie and seeing people getting their shit fucked up in semi-creative and heinous ways.
2. Americans have a very short attention span when it comes to race relations, anti-semitism and misogyny.
3. Michael Richard's much televised racist tirade kinda got Mel a get out of the shit house free card.
4. Hollywood is like any other big business, its all about the bottom line. Mel is good as long as Mel rakes in the dollars. If that movie doesn't keep the cash coming Mel will be exiled again in short order. He has to prove not only that he can get asses in chairs but that he can keep them coming back.
5. Once again, American movie goers love gruesome death, which is why there are so many slaughter flicks opening around Christmas this year. You can't even call these movies horror films anymore. They are basically fictionalized snuff films. You know that if Hollywood could actually get a real live snuff film in the theaters they would, and the movie going public would be lined up around the block to see it.
